Impact Award

The Merrimack High School FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team, Chop Shop 166, competed at the Pine Tree Regional Event in Lewiston, ME, where they won the coveted FIRST Impact Award.  The FIRST Impact Award “is the most prestigious award at FIRST, it honors the team that best represents a model for other teams to emulate and best embodies the mission of FIRST.”

“What an exciting weekend,” said Matthew Gage, Lead Mentor of Chop Shop 166. “It was tremendous to watch how the team worked together to succeed both on and off the field.”

To win the FIRST Impact Award, teams submit an essay highlighting the work the team has done over the last three years to expand STEAM throughout their community.  At the Pine Tree District Event, Chop Shop 166 students made a presentation based on their 5-Year Plan directly to event judges where their impact was compared against other teams at the event.

“Winning Impact for the third straight year at a District event was an amazing feeling,” said Gage.  “It is great that the team is being recognized for all the work they do in our community.”
