Bridge to STEAM

Bridge to STEAM is an interactive event that introduces children aged 6 to 10 to the principles of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM). Through engaging experiments, participants learn about the scientific method and create "bridges" between different areas of STEAM. Hosted in partnership with the Merrimack Public Library, this event combines hands-on learning with fun, aiming to foster curiosity and enthusiasm for science among young learners.

Our THIRD ITERATION

On June 25, 2024 Chop Shop hosted our third iteration of Bridge to STEAM at Merrimack Public Library. There were approximately 20 kids in attendance who learned about wind and the science and history of wind turbines. They had the challenge of building their own wind turbines out of household supplies. Kevin Skrupa was a special guest who helped us with teaching the science of weather. The kids had a great time and loved the challenge of building a wind turbine and then going outside to test it.

Our SECOND iteration

Our second iteration of Bridge to STEAM, 12 kids learned the basics of Trajectory with a hot wheels challenge. The kids had to build a ramp that would shoot the cars into buckets from a specific distance away, learning trajectory. The event lasted one hour on March 24th, 2024, during which the kids used the scientific method in order to make sure there car made it into the bucket consistently.

Our First Iteration

Our team had its first Bridge to STEAM event at the Merrimack Public Library on October 17th, 2023. There, we encouraged kids ages 6-10 to create LEGO bridges while learning the relationships between each parts of the acronym STEAM, and problem-solving through the scientific method. We look forward to inspiring the next generations with STEAM and building a better relationship with our community!
