Woodie Flowers

The Woodie Flowers award shows appreciations to extremely hard working mentors to reward them for all their hard work, time, and dedication to FIRST and the students that work in it.

FIRST describes the Woodie Flowers award as

This award recognizes an individual who has done an outstanding job of motivation through communication while also challenging the students to be clear and succinct in their communications. As such, it is very important that this be a student-led effort and a student decision.Team students should decide whom to nominate. Team students should write the essay nomination in their own words.

At the Pine Tree District Event on March 17th, 2024, Chop Shop's newest mentor, Layth Juma was selected as a Woodie Flowers Semi-Finalist.

“It was amazing to see Layth’s reaction when he realized that the kids had nominated him for Woodie Flowers,” said Matthew Gage, Lead Mentor of Chop Shop 166.  “He does so much to help the team and never expected to be recognized this way, which is the sign you are doing things for the right reasons. He is extremely deserving of this recognition and we couldn’t be prouder.”

The stundent's essay will once again be judged against all of the other submissions from the district at New England District Championship on April 3rd.  If Layth is selected, he would become a Woodie Flowers Finalist and be judged one last time at the World Championship.
